Axle Bearings

The axle bearing is a key component of the automotive transmission system and chassis system. It is mainly used to support the axle, transfer loads and reduce rotational friction, ensuring the smooth operation of the wheels. Its performance directly affects the vehicle’s handling, safety and fuel economy.

Types

Details

The transmission shaft bearings and drive bearings do not bear much load, but they need to have good sealing performance and the function of adjusting the misalignment of the installation position. Moreover, due to the close proximity of the drive shaft bearing to the engine exhaust pipe, the working temperature of the bearing is relatively high. To ensure the waterproof performance, the sealing contact mode of the bearing is heavy contact, so the temperature rise during operation is relatively high. The maximum working temperature inside the bearing can reach 150, which puts forward very high requirements for the high-temperature resistance and wear resistance of the rubber material of the bearing seal.

The sealing ring is exposed to the external environment, working in harsh environment and often contacting with mud, dust, salt and alkali substances. The working environment of -40 in winter and above 90 in summer also poses challenges to the anti-aging performance of sealing rubber.

Differential tapered roller bearings carry a large load and the cleanliness of the lubricating oil is lacking. Therefore, the bearings have requirements for anti-contamination and anti-wear.

The drive shaft bearings and transmission bearings designed by FLT have an inclination Angle of up to 0.8 °, which can adapt to the misalignment of the drive shaft or transmission shaft during installation.

Most of the sealing structures adopt double-layer sealing structures. The sealing materials selected are modified nitrile rubber materials HNBR or SNBR with excellent performance. These materials have superior wear resistance, elasticity and resistance to high and low temperatures.

To reduce the frictional torque, FLT also designs a single-layer sealing structure. In this sealing structure, the contact parts between the ring and the sealing ring are ground, and the lip of the sealing ring is closely combined with the sealing surface of the ring. Moreover, the frictional torque is relatively small, making it particularly suitable for sealing the support bearings of transmission shafts.

The differential tapered roller bearings produced by FLT adopt special heat treatment process to enhance the wear resistance of the working surface of the rings, and their service life can reach more than six times that of L10. FLT can simulate and calculate the service life of bearings, contact stress and recommend appropriate preload, providing a theoretical basis for bearing selection and customer application.

Deep groove ball bearing

Deep groove ball bearings are mainly used in the support parts of transmission shafts, mainly to support the transmission shafts and drive rotation. The seal is a double-lip four-seal structure, which is low in noise and can withstand radial loads and a small amount of axial loads. Deep groove ball bearings with a spherical outer surface can adjust the installation angle or position of the bearing. Some vehicle models can be equipped with double-row angular contact ball bearings.

Tapered roller bearing

Tapered roller bearings are mainly used in axle hubs and differentials. They can withstand large axial and radial loads and are designed as low-torque bearings, which are widely applied in axles. The adjustment of preload is a key factor affecting the use of bearings.

Applications

Axle bearings are applied in the transmission shafts, drive shafts, hubs and differentials of the power transmission systems of passenger vehicles or commercial vehicles.
